Delivering On The Mission Of Serving Others.
4 Corners Global Outreach was founded in 2010 by St Andrew Methodist church in Plano, Texas and operates Clínica Emanuel in the remote southern mountains of Costa Rica, providing medical care and sharing the hope of God with the Cabécar people.
Our Mission
Working together with the Cabécar people of Costa Rica to share the hope of God and improve well-being.
Clínica Emanuel
Clínica Emanuel opened on September 3, 2013 on the lower floor of the home of Valentin, an Elder of Jabuy. Our current clinic building opened June 21, 2016. We see almost 200 patients each month at our primary clinic and many more at satellite sites in other parts of the Cabécar community.
Sharing Hope
Our relationship with the Cabécars started with Clinicá Emanuel but has expanded to installing cook stoves to reduce respiratory aliments, providing food for children and teens, hosting mini Village Bible Schools to share faith, and offering scholarships and job training for young Cabécars entering adulthood.
Cook Stoves
Deepening Our Bond
Cooking is essential in Cabécar daily life and is typically done over an open fire. Their traditional cuisine includes locally sourced ingredients such as root vegetables, plantains, corn, and wild game, which they use to make hearty stews and soups. Respiratory issues resulting from cooking over open fires are the number one illness seen by our medical team at Clínica Emanuel.
Board member Hal Kurkowski researched the issue and found HELPS International, based in Addison, Texas. HELPS, a non-profit organization dedicated to addressing issues of health and environmental sustainability, produces and distributes vented, plancha type stoves designed by the father of Board member Gayle Markey.
Hal developed a partnership with HELPS to deliver and install over 200 stoves over the last 2 years.
This project not only reduces the incidence of respiratory issues, but also deepens our bond with the Cabécar community as we travel to many remote areas of their land to help install stoves and share the hope of God.
Village Bible School
We currently provide meals, fellowship, and faith to hundreds of Cabécar kids and teens each month who don’t have access to meals except at school. During meal preparation, we engage children and teenagers to sing, play games, and discuss scripture. We are developing plans to expand these events in order to attract more families into a church community.
